URBAN FURROWS

Rooted in a language of geometrical synthesis and the re-interpretation of urban landscape, this series was made for the 2017 Rise in the City art exhibition in NY, which challenged the selected artists to confront, through the medium of their choice, Lesotho with a New York City Block. The following drawings were inspired by the traditional Basotho “Litema Art” which represents a direct link to a humanized nature, to the lines found in the furrows that can be seen in ploughed fields for seeding or harvesting. They draw inspiration from this vernacular art-form and used it to expose a myriad of different patterns and elements extracted from the city and its urban fabric, ranging from the visible to the invisible, in order to reorganise them in an harmonious composition, using simple freehand drawn lines.
